Cal Poly Swing
Founded in 1998, Cal Poly Swing Club is a dance club at Cal Poly, SLO. We love to dance and teach various Swing Dancing styles, including Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, Balboa, and more!
CP Swing hosts weekly lessons during the school year as well as social dancing, open to students and community members alike. We strive to create a relaxed lesson environment where you can “learn to Lindy.” Lessons are provided at Beginner and Intermediate levels, so no matter your dance experience you can feel comfortable attending.
Each year the club also hosts a few large events including a Swing Workshop and a Swing Exchange (fondly nicknamed SLOx). Dancers come from all over California and the country to SLO to spend these weekends dancing with us!
SOCIAL DANCING AT MADONNA INN
What’s a great reason to learn swing? Social dancing! Look forward to every Monday by joining your fellow club members and the local swing community on the dance floor at the picturesque Madonna Inn, hosted graciously by the SLO Rugcutters free of charge. Mondays 8–10 pm.
SLO’s local swing dance scene is very welcoming to dancers of all skill levels, and showing up after only a lesson or two is the best way to have fun and learn by doing.
The club provides rides from campus to Madonna Inn for students who need transportation. Interested in a ride? Send us an email at cpswingclub@gmail.com.
fall 2024 SWING LESSONS
When: Fall Quarter 2024 - Sundays, 1-3 PM; Wednesdays, 7-9 PM.
Where: Room 225(Sunday) and Room 100(Wednesday) of the Architecture Building (Bldg. 05), near Dexter Lawn
This year the lessons are free. See here for details about free weekend parking on campus (during most weekends).
Each week rotates between different topics to ensure students are not left behind if they miss a lesson (or several) or begin after the first week. There is no expectation to have any previous dance experience, to dress special, or to come with a partner— just show up ready to dance!
