Ashley Perretta

In 2014, after nearly a decade as a professional dancer in musical theatre, Ashley moved to Los Angeles to begin her swing dance career. Her teaching (and dancing) are centered around creating joyful gracious partnerships, letting the music inspire self-expression, and cultivating connected conversation. She is "ambi-danceterous" and holds international titles in Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, and Balboa as both a leader and follower. She thrives on sharing the magic that swing dancing has brought to her life and strives to foster an equitable, inclusive community -- honoring this Black American artform she is privileged to teach.

Laura Evans

Laura first learned tidbits of ballroom dance when she was nine years old from her stepmother, who was a professional ballroom dance instructor. She discovered lindy hop in college through the University of Redlands Ballroom Dance Club and instantly fell in love with the dance. She attended her first weekend event in 2016, Phoenix Lindy Exchange, and from then on lindy hop became an unquenchable passion in her life. She has traveled and competed regularly since 2017, winning and placing at events such as Camp Hollywood, Lindy Focus, Camp Jitterbug, Inspiration Weekend, and Lindy on the Rocks. Laura lives in southern California and teaches at Lindygroove and other local venues. Outside of dancing, Laura is a professional classical violinist and music teacher. Her knowledge and love for music shape the way she dances and teaches. In both her social and competition dancing, she values creatively expressing the music and interacting playfully with her partner. Above all, she loves to inspire her students and share the dance with anyone brave enough to try it.

event schedule

  • @ Nexus SLO Ballroom

    10:30a - 11:30a: The Science of a Swingout
Delve into the technical artistry of the Lindy Hop’s iconic swingout! This class emphasizes body awareness, and the physics and anatomy behind each movement. For those looking to add personal flair, this class also teaches how to maintain consistent connection even with stylings.

    11:45a - 12:45p: Solo Jazz
Expand your movement vocabulary with a quick combination, then experiment with levels, rhythm changes, and accents to personalize each sequence. Whether for dance floor solos or refining Lindy Hop basics, these variations help dancers become more adaptable, agile, and expressive.

    12:45p - 1:45p: Lunch

    1:45p-2:45p: Up Your Vocabulary
This class will explore ways to add variations, style, and combos to your dance arsenal, transforming simple moves into versatile tools for any musical or social setting, while inspiring creativity and confidence on the dance floor.

    3p - 4p: Switch Class
This class will focus on the seamless exchange of roles during a social dance. From understanding your partner's momentum to practicing various switch points, this class teaches dancers to fully embody both roles while keeping the energy alive. You'll leave with the skills to confidently create a dance that feels playful, dynamic, and in sync.

    7:30p-11:30p Evening Dance

  • @ Nexus SLO Ballroom

    10:30a - 11:30a: Partnered Charleston
This class is designed to build a strong foundation in this high-energy dance style. Become introduced to classic 8-count patterns, creative moves like cow tails and skip-ups, tandem, and more. This class will give dancers a starting toolbox for expressing the spirit of Charleston on the dance floor.

11:45a - 12:45p: Intro to Musicality and Conversation
Let’s work on responding to both music and partner cues. Focusing on the concept of a three-way partnership between you, your partner, and the music, this class introduces rhythm, timing, levels, and shapes as tools for musical expression.
